Once Again about Simulation of Scientific Activity in the Humanities

چکیده

This work is inspired by the article “Local Humanities and Education in Front of Third Millennium Challenges” B.G. Sokolov. He discussed “local challenges” generated “integration” “optimization” that have nothing to do with scientific process, about simulation actions as expected response these challenges. The author considers typical ways simulating leading an increase quantitative parameters reports, but not contributing knowledge (artificial publication activity; defense frankly weak qualifying works, including dissertations; imitation pseudoscientific conferences; “omnivorous” paid journals; blurring lines between genres pursuit funding). proliferation mechanisms contradict normative documents testifies loss qualitative criteria necessary for self-preservation science. use regulatory instruments provided current bureaucratic acts also formal, often overtly simulated. In fact, many identified “challenges” are “local”, inherent exclusively Russian addition, practice recent years shows, problems consequences well understood domestic scientists who trying draw attention anomalies develop counter their manifestations (activity Dissernet ASEP), which indicates existence “initiative from below”. believes activity professional community art historians critics can become a model restoring humanities. quality traditions criticism survived this will replace imposed parameters, reduce reputation losses humanitarian

Once again about interchain hopping

Renormalization group equations and a phase diagram are derived for a system of two chains with a single-electron hopping between chains in order to correct the results of a recent paper by F. V. Kusmartsev, A. Luther, and A. Nersesyan, Pis’ma v Zh. Exp. Teor. Fiz. 55, 692 (1992) [JETP Lett. 55, 724 (1992)]. In a recent paper [1], the effect of a single-electron hopping (SEH) between chains in ...

Measurement without Theory, Once Again

Bailey and Collins (2011) argue that Greenwood, Seshadri, and Vandenbroucke’s (2005) hypothesis that the baby boom was partly due to a burst of productivity in the household sector is not supported by evidence. This conclusion is based on regression results showing that appliance ownership is negatively correlated with fertility. They also argue that the Amish, who limit the use of modern techn...

Singularity: Raychaudhuri Equation once again

I first recount Raychaudhuri’s deep involvement with the singularity problem in general relativity. I then argue that precisely the same situation has arisen today in loop quantum cosmology as obtained when Raychaudhuri discovered his celebrated equation. We thus need a new analogue of the Raychaudhuri equation in quantum gravity. PACS numbers: 04.20.Jb, 04.2.Cv, 98.80 Dr 1 Singularity and AKR ...
